I don’t think it’s justified paying that and I’m trying to argue for my own license for small 10 minute changes such as this. Sometimes this works in our favour (I hear, I am yet to experience huge overhauls happening) however situations like this (where I have about 4 start dates which are now being pushed back, so purely the written date needs to change) mean charges of £2-300. The designer we work with (I’m new, they were in place long before I joined) has a straight 10% amendment fee regardless of the change. They certainly don’t place any value on moving anything in-house currently. I am new so I’m trying to work out whether this is because they don’t understand/are slightly out of their depth or because they don’t want to move into that space. They’ve been making videos, “graphics” and all sorts just on PowerPoint/other basic software. It’s difficult because our work requires a certain amount of design but everyone there is straight comms.
I just wondered if it’s possible to make these edits just by purchasing InCopy (tbh, I don’t want the full InDesign programme because I don’t want to be the go to for everyone’s tiny alterations) as a viable alternative. It makes sense to us to have this change in-house but we’re part of a very big, slow, corporate machine and it’ll be far easier if I change things myself and then make a business case to be paid back. So each time I’m looking at about a £200+ fee to change approximately 10 digits. We’re charged a 10% amendment fee each time this needs changing, and unfortunately the project managers want the document changing and insist each date is the final date. The nature of this is that we’re only editing dates in the text, which are likely to change 4-5 times. Do you mean that InCopy doesn’t work without it or are you saying that I shouldn’t bother with InCopy at all? Because InCopy is designed to alter text on InDesign files, so if I was buying InDesign anyway I naturally would not bother with InCopy.
